about:
Voutchkova/Thieke/Carroll make tactile, kinetic, luminous acoustic music; focused on aspects of timbre, tuning, and auditory/psycho-acoustic phenomena. Their debut album on Berlin’s Sound Anatomy label ”As Found” captures Voutchkova/Thieke/Carroll navigating with principled uncertainty between acoustic and electrical, discrete and continuous, unity and disparity.
The trio mines the interstice of all three permutational duos (Voutchkova/Thieke, Thieke/Carroll, Voutchkova/Carroll) of which exist as distinct performing entities; together in this trio they extend a common aesthetic of timbral and gestural ambiguity. All three musicians live in Berlin where they are very active members of the city’s extraordinarily busy and creative improvising and post-echtzeitmusik scenes.
“…a mental / musical desire to build space without direct boundaries… when I hear this, I learn to spell b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l in a new way.” Thomas Millroth, Orkesterjournalen (Sweden)
“… kinetic electro-acoustic pendulum, moving between tactile, detailed acoustic ideas and their distant, processed abstraction, between reserved and discrete sounds and sudden, rough eruptions…” Eyal Hareuveni,Salt Peanuts (Norway)
